March 14, 2024

More coffee (startups), anyone? Get your caffeine fix from Koppiku, a Malaysian coffee startup that just raised $2.5M!

Investor check. According to Alternatives.pe, they’ve raised from investors like Vertex Ventures and Reshape Ventures.

  • Previous backers include Sachin Bhanot (Head of Investments for SEA and ANZ, Prosus Ventures), Raja Hamzah Abidin (co-founder, RHL Ventures), and First Move (founded by Fave founder, Joel Neoh)
  • Hann Yeoh (Managing Partner, AC Ventures) and Antifragile Ventures—both backers of the Philippines’ Pickup Coffee are also investors.

☕️ Something’s brewing

Fit for your wallet. Founded in 2023, they make premium coffee accessible. Their drinks cost anywhere from 5 MYR ($1.07) to 9.90 MYR ($2.12) without substitutes or add-ons.

Efficient with space. Order directly from their four outlets, or order from your favorite delivery apps.

  • They don’t operate stores in buildings. Right now, they operate out of large coffee trucks that serve as grab-and-go outlets.

Whatever’s your taste. They offer coffees, teas, milk teas, and non-caffeinated coolers! Oh, and they have Malaysia-inspired drinks too.

👀 Who’s the competition?

In the Malaysian coffee startup space, they compete with Malaysian brands ZUS Coffee and Gigi Coffee, as well as Indonesia’s Kopi Kenangan, which expanded to the country.

ZUS Coffee has expanded to the Philippines with a local Philippine F&B billionaire who bought a 35% stake in ZUS.
