$2.8M to build Canva for 3D design

February 9, 2023

Design it with PixCap! This Singapore-based startup just raised a $2.8M seed round led by Sequoia India and Southeast Asia's Surge.

  • Founded in 2020, they have 30,000+ and operate in more than 60 countries like the US, India, Indonesia, and the UK, as well as more markets in Southeast Asia.

Investor check. Cocoon Capital and Entrepreneur First also joined in!

👩🏻‍🎨 Moving to a 3D world

Even tech companies you know and love are starting to use 3D more — check the logos, apps, ads and websites of brands like Foodpanda, Shopee, Tiktok and Lazada!

Oh, and it's also practical too. 3D designs are reusable. On TV ads, lots of the content is in 3D, so a brand can easily make one 3D design and use it for everything from their ads to websites — instead of spending time and money making both 2D and 3D designs.

😅 The problem?

It's super rare to find designers with 3D animation skills. Oh, and even when creators or designers want to learn 3D skills, the typical legacy software used to make 3D designs are extremely complex — most would likely give up.

Plus, 3D's very expensive. Don't believe us? Gojek spent nearly $200k working with a branding agency to make 3D icons for their apps, website and social media. (I mean, not everyone has $200k, and even if you did, it's still a lot for just one project/campaign...)

🔥 PixCap's here to save the day

They're doing what Canva did for 2D design but for 3D. They're making it cheaper, easier and more accessible for brands — thanks to their no-code platform.

  • They've got a library with thousands of customizable 3D templates — like 3D designs of computers, motorcycles, shopping carts and anything you need.

Oh-so-easy. Just use their website, where you can drag-and-drop designs that you can customize with a few clicks! No 3D experience needed (even we've tried it!)

How you do it. You or your usual marketer can create a 3D design for your social media post (or anything else) in just minutes.

✈️ What's next

They'll be growing their engineering and marketing teams, expanding globally and pushing for product development and community building.

And more. One of their strongest points is that they have tons of templates. So, they're building a contributor marketplace for creators to easily sell their work so that PixCap can grow their template library faster and constantly have new 3D templates for users.
