$3.8M for Singapore-based Wind to take flight

November 30, 2023

Meet Wind, a Singapore-based fintech. Through their platform, you can receive payments from foreign employers, open a virtual account, and convert your crypto holdings into fiat and vice versa!

Now, they just raised a $3.8M pre-seed.

  • So far, they’ve facilitated over $3M in annualized growth transaction volume within just a few months after launch.

Investor check. Global Founders Capital and Spartan Group co-led the round, while Saison Capital, Alumni Ventures, and Tiny VC joined the round.

🍞 Get that bread

You might be wondering…PayPal and Wise allow you to do the same thing, right? Wind’s different since it uses blockchain for settlement, so it’s able to lower fees and faster payments.

Another key feature? They built their own on-ramp and off-ramp platform for you to exchange fiat and crypto at lower rates.

  • Plus: Their wallets are self-custodial, so you (not Wind) have full control over your funds.
  • This also makes it easier for users to open an account. Yes, they can sign up with just their email or phone numbers.

🤔 Why it matters

Let’s be real—if you’re not into Web3, then understanding crypto isn’t that easy.

No need to spend time unpacking the jargon, Wind is meant to be used by everybody, even those who have minimal experience with crypto and blockchain.

👋🏻 Their clients

Wind's initial clients include other Web3 startups. But, they also have a user base in some Southeast Asian markets like the Philippines.

  • Because of a large number of overseas Filipino workers (and remote hires), the Philippines has a large remittance market for USD!
  • They’re currently targeting freelancers and remote workers for payment.

📈 What the future holds?

They’ll develop their tech and focus on procuring compliance and licenses to build their off and onramps.

  • Oh, they’ll also double down on acquiring new customers.
  • Their app is currently live in the Philippines, India, and Bangladesh.
