Waste4Change

Not going to waste! Here's Waste4Change. This Indonesian startup is here to shrink Indonesia's landfills and make waste management greener! Now, they've just raised a $5M Series A.

  • Founded in 2014, they manage over 8,000 tons of waste every year.
  • They're used by 100 B2B customers and over 3,500 households.

Investor check. The round was co-led by AC Ventures and PT Barito Mitra Investama. SMDV, Basra Corporation, Paloma Capital, PT Delapan Satu Investa, Living Lab Ventures and Urban Gateway Fund also joined in.

😱 The problem?

Indonesia's landfills are nearing maximum capacity.

  • The government has a target of 30% waste reduction by 2025.
  • Room for growth. Indonesia has the largest waste management problem in SEA.

🗑 How it works

For you and I. Sort your trash, then drop it off at one of their pick-up points! Plus, you get prizes for helping reduce the waste that goes to landfills.

For B2B customers. They'll regularly pick up your pre-sorted trash and send you waste reports.

  • They also have other services like environmentally friendly document destruction and help brands launch waste-reduction programs with their stakeholders.

♻️ What they do with it?

After collection, they segregate and process the waste in their facilities before sending them to landfills. This reduces the amount of waste that goes to landfills!

😎 More than just collection

They also work with recycling business partners who buy and sell solid waste with Waste4Change, making waste management more traceable and accurate.

  • This includes informal waste collectors like scavengers, waste banks, waste stalls and waste collectors.
  • They also give incentives to pick up certain types of waste.

🤷🏻‍♀️ How they're different

They're an end-to-end waste management solution focused on zero waste. This means they'll monitor the waste management process and automate their facilities.

💰 What's with the $$$?

They'll be expanding their waste management capacity to 100 tons per day in the next 18 months and strengthening their partnerships with the informal solid waste sector!
