Love greens? BoomGrow is for you! This Malaysia-based company grows and delivers pesticide-free veggies to urban consumers. And they just raised a Pre-Series A!

  • Launched in 2015, they grow their produce in repurposed shipping containers they call ‘machine farms’.

Investor check. Gobi Partners funded the round.

  • The amount’s still hush-hush.

🥬 Something fresh for you

Bringing fresh produce from rural locations to densely populated cities is tough because of logistical challenges and other factors.

BoomGrow offers a simple solution. They build hyperlocal, stackable farms that enable them to grow fresh produce close to consumers.

  • Their machine farms aren’t just convenient, it’s carbon-friendly too!
  • Because their farms are stackable (grow vertically) and modular (movable), they claim that they’re able to use 95% less land, water, and labor than traditional farming methods.

How do they manage it all? They have a remote platform that uses machine vision and machine learning to monitor and optimize the performance of all their farms.

🥗 What they sell

They offer bagged mixed greens (kale, chard, rocket, etc), herbs, and microgreens—perfect for salads and sandwiches!

They mainly supply hotels, restaurants, and grocers.

  • But, you can snag one of their weekly subscription packages for direct-to-home delivery.
  • FYI. A set of 4 leafy green packets, 2 herb packs, and 1 microgreen pack plus shipping costs 40.50 MYR ($8.61) per week.

🍇 What the future holds?

They’ll use the $$$ to grow across Southeast Asia. Oh, and they might add fruit-bearing and vine crops to their range of products soon.

  • They’re active in Malaysia and recently expanded to Manila in the Philippines.
