Gogoro speeds into the Philippines with their swappable batteries and EVs

Gogoro

Say hey to Gogoro! This Taiwanese electric scooter and battery startup has been making moves in SEA and has just announced their latest market — the Philippines. 🇵🇭

  • The right timing! Last week, the Philippines removed taxes on EVs and their parts for the next five years — it used to be a 5–30% tax.
  • They're listed on the NASDAQ and present in countries like Taiwan, China, India, Israel and Indonesia.

🔋 It's Gogo(ro) time!

Sure, there are tons of e-scooters. But what makes Gogoro super interesting isn't their scooters — it's their swappable batteries.

  • They have over 11,000 battery swapping stations, enable 370,000 battery swaps daily and have completed 360M+ battery swaps since launch.

⚡️ How it works

Never wait for a charge. As soon as you start running low on battery, you can head to a Gogoro battery swapping station and pop a new battery into your scooter!

The best part? It doesn't just work with Gogoro e-scooters. It works with 10 brands and 47 e-scooter brands (and counting)!

  • Swap to full batteries in seconds. It can take at least 3 hours to fully charge an e-scooter.
  • This means you can use your e-scooter all day, every day, anywhere — without worrying about running out of battery along the way (or having to charge at home).

Control it on your phone. Their app allows you to locate your scooter, find battery switching stations and help you find your way to whatever destination.

  • And more! Check your battery level, operate your scooter (honking, light levels, unlocking) and even review your riding distance and energy consumption.

Meet your new ride. If you're looking for an e-scooter, you'd love their smart e-scooters. They're keyless (yet secure), app-controllable, customizable and easy-to-use.

  • Find the one for you! They've got faster scooters, women's scooters with extra safety and comfort features and more.
  • They have their own OS that regularly updates with new features, even if you bought your scooter a while back!

🤨 So, how's the Philippine launch going?

They'll start with a pilot test with select B2B partners before expanding to new B2B partners and consumers.

  • They partnered with local conglomerate Ayala Corporation, local telecom Globe and Globe's venture builder 917Ventures to do a B2B pilot in Q1 next year.
  • They'll send through a few hundred of their smart scooters, several hundreds of batteries and half a dozen swapping stations to the Manila area.

Why B2B first? Two-wheeled EVs aren't as popular in the country yet.

  • EV adoption is picking up, though, and with tons of delivery and logistics services (and rising gasoline prices), B2B might be a good move.
