Amanda Ong is the founder of Aunty App, a babysitting platform for parents to find trustworthy and reliable sitters for children of all ages. Designed for busy parents, bookings can be made on the same day to 3 months in advance.
Before Aunty App, she was a Consulting Manager at an HR consulting firm.
👋🏼 How would you explain your job to someone outside tech?
I run a babysitting app that connects parents to trusted and reliable babysitters to provide the best care for their children when they really need a break.
Our sitters are responsible young adults and/or fellow mums looking for an opportunity to support and contribute to their community while earning a side income.
🧐 What's something about you or your job that would surprise us?
I came up with the idea for Aunty app because it was a problem I personally faced when I was navigating motherhood with two kids under 2. I did not expect it to be THIS tough.
At a time when I needed help the most, due to varying circumstances, both my helper and my nanny were unavailable to assist.
I was not prepared when I suddenly found myself with no support. Keeping in mind that labor was scarce during the COVID-impacted period, I could not find their replacements in time and was so exhausted managing the daily chaos at home.
I figured that I could create a platform to connect mothers and grandmothers living close by to help me out.
I book regularly on the app!
🏆 What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?
The biggest highlight of my career so far is being able to create something that could help parents. It brings me great joy that Aunty app has been able to help single parents, busy and tired parents, parents with little to no family support and those with special needs children. Seeing how Aunty app can bring tangible help to them has strengthened my belief that happy parents will raise happy children.
