Amiyandra is the regional lead of platforms and ecosystems at 1982 Ventures, a Singapore-based venture capital (VC) firm focused on investing in early-stage fintech start-ups in Southeast Asia.
They have experience leading and executing fintech deals in the region, with local networks that provide them with exclusive deal flow, on-the-ground insights, and access to decision-makers. Prior to 1982 Ventures, she graduated from Harvard Business School.
👋🏼 How would you explain your job to someone outside tech?
1982 Ventures invests money into young companies that have the potential to become a huge success. If the company takes off, they make a ton of money. It's a risky game, but the rewards can be massive.
Basically, we are the fairy godmothers (or godfathers) of the startup world, giving money and advice to help these little companies grow into big businesses. What I'm doing here is to create connections between 1982 Ventures with clients and people in the ecosystem.
🧐 What's something about you or your job that would surprise us?
Initially, I thought venture capital firms were all about throwing cash around. I now realize they're actually strategic investors who spend countless hours researching companies, networking with industry experts, and mentoring startups. It's as much about building relationships and providing guidance as it is about money.
So next time you think of a VC, imagine it as a mix of a financial analyst, a mentor, and a bit of a detective!
