Daniel (aka, Dan) Galeon is the Head of Risk at Overflow, a platform that enables non-profits, churches and corporations to accept stock, crypto and cash donations in minutes.
Overflow launched in 2019 and is trusted by 300+ organizations, such as the Warriors Community Foundation, the American Cancer Society, and thousands of donors. Donors have been limited to giving in cash — Overflow is changing that.
👋🏼 How would you explain your job to someone outside tech?
Overflow is an early-stage startup in the donation/giving space. We make generosity frictionless by unlocking more ways to give.
Non-profits, churches, and corporations can accept stock, crypto and cash donations in minutes, not months, on our secure platform.
🧐 What's something about you or your job that would surprise us?
Because Overflow is in growth stage, I find myself working in many different capacities.
In my current role, I oversee Risk, Product Operations and Compliance for the company. I also find myself working cross-functionally to get things done (yes, rolling up my sleeves!) with Sales, Marketing, Finance and Leadership.
🏆 What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?
I have spent most of my career in Financial Services, working in many different locations — London, New York, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
One highlight I am most proud of is transitioning into tech successfully.
A big misconception of former finance employees is the lack of adaptability to non-structured environments. I was able to fully utilize the rigor of my finance experiences and apply it in a fast(er)-paced environment to produce meaningful/impactful work.
🔍 What's a startup trend or space you're watching this year?
Payments trends. I am particularly interested in monitoring how organizations are reconsidering their operating models to drive innovation and expand digital payment methods/acceptances.
💼 What advice would you give someone starting out in your industry?
Be open to feedback as you learn the ins and outs. Also, remember there is always more than one way to do things!
🗣 What's one thing you can keep talking about for hours?
Representation of Filipinos and Filipinas in Technology and Finance
🎥 What's your favorite movie/TV show?
