๐๐ผ How would you explain your job to someone outside tech?
The world is short of 15M healthcare workers, and there are not enough resources to provide accessible and quality healthcare to those who need it. As such, the people who pay for healthcare, the people who provide it, and the people who use it all need to do more with less.
At MiyaHealth, we build technology and digital infrastructure to make everything more efficient. For insurers, we create technology to automate their processes, thereby reducing costs.ย
For patients, we create an avatar to guide them through their healthcare journey, ensuring that they get the right care at the right time.ย
For hospitals, we connect them directly to insurers through our data hub, hence facilitating quicker claim processes and enabling a better patient experience with less manpower.
As the CEO and co-founder, my job is to empower the team to take intellectual risks that result in the creation of innovative products and solutions.ย
I also ensure that they have the resources required to achieve the shared goal of expanding our products to people around the world, and provide the right healthcare at the right time for everyone everywhere.ย
โ
๐ง What's something about you or your job that would surprise us?
Being a CEO and co-founder means you work for everyone, not the other way around.
โ
๐ What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?
I have worked in multiple roles throughout my professional journey in London, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore.
I was a doctor, a healthcare investment banker, a CFO/COO of a healthcare company, and now am an entrepreneur. So there have been many highlights.
As a doctor, I was fortunate to develop a new way to manage breast cancer. As a banker, I worked on one of Asiaโs largest cross-border healthcare M&A deals.ย
I helped scale a company from 1K to 3K people strong in two and a half years through multiple strategic acquisitions as a CFO/COO.ย
At MiyaHealth, one of many highlights has been winning our first multi-million dollar contract and working with my two amazing co-founders.
All in all, the most significant highlight has been the good fortune to learn from talented co-workers and clients, many of whom have become good friends. It has been a privilege to be a part of their lives.
โ
๐ What's a startup trend or space you're watching this year?โ
I believe startups will explore alternative ways to fund themselves, as market cycles often act as a catalyst for innovative financing approaches. There will also be consolidation in many sub-sectors.
โ
๐ผ What advice would you give someone starting out in your industry?ย
โ
๐ฃ What's one thing you can keep talking about for hours?ย
Ideas. it doesn't matter what they relate to. They have the power to change things for the better.
โ
๐ฅ What's your favorite movie/TV show?ย
The West Wing. itโs just really well-written, clever, and witty. It ages well too.
โ
๐จ What's your go-to ice cream flavor?โ
Vanilla ice cream. I like simple things executed well.ย
