Ginsky Chan is the Co-founder and Medical Director of Angsana Health. They're a startup building patient-centric solutions for primary care in Southeast Asia. Oh, and they're also raising their seed round!

Before Angsana, he served in the Ministry of Health, Malaysia as a medical doctor.

👋🏼 How would you explain your job to someone outside tech?

I build clinical and operational protocols for telehealth solutions: clinical includes medical, health economics, behavioral, ethical, and legal perspectives, while operations include health systems, human capital, and technology.

🧐 What's something about you or your job that would surprise us?

About me: I'm co-founding the startup while doing my Master's degree.

About my job: I never felt that it was a 'job,' and I'm truly grateful for that.

🏆 What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?

We've launched one product and are profitable already, and we have another six products to be launched in 2023. It's mind boggling because we're less than 1.5 years old and we're still in the midst of our Seed Round! Working with arguably the top 1-5% of the brains in healthcare has been one of the greatest privileges I had in my entire life.

🔍 What's a startup trend or space you're watching this year?‍

Artificial intelligence and machine learning. With the immense data available in healthcare, it's only a matter of time before somebody puts those data into an AI engine. Once that happens (with the proper legal and ethical context), efficiency in health services will skyrocket.

💼 What advice would you give someone starting out in your industry? 

You need a team with sufficiently diverse backgrounds and expertise, even someone from a different industry. 

Most of the time, mental blocks are caused by tunnel vision: when the team is from the same background and constantly talks about the same things. Secondly, if you're recruiting, ask yourself (beneath everything else in the CV), "Can I imagine myself co-founding a company with this person?"

🗣 What's one thing you can keep talking about for hours? 

I'm better at listening than talking. If I were to choose, it's definitely medical science (I'm a nerd and proud to be one!)

Supernatural. Was, is, and will always be.
