👋🏼 How would you explain your job to someone outside tech?

We get impressed with someone, a team or a great business idea;

We thrashed all our optimism by pulling apart everything through due diligence;

We rebuild our faith and excitement in someone, a team or a great business idea;

We devise a game plan with the founders we are backing to execute on a great business idea;

We "beg"/raise money, then deploy money;

We journey with the founders through the highs and the lows;

Ultimately we like to believe that we have contributed to building businesses that last;

We like to see the smiles on the faces of our founders, investors and staff having had a fulfilling journey of business adventures.

🧐 What's something about you or your job that would surprise us?

I work on average, 16 hours per day, 7 days a week.

🏆 What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?

The growth of our founders as responsible, morally upright, and successful business leaders in their sector.

🔍 What's a startup trend or space you're watching this year?‍

Reversion to fundamentals. Two aspects to reversion to fundamentals, namely:

‍

(1) Businesses are built to make money and to be sustainable as going-concerns; and

(2) Negative Externalities of businesses will increasingly be priced as tangible costs to businesses.

💼 What advice would you give someone starting out in your industry?

You will never know enough, read as widely as you possibly could, keep your mind as open as it can be, nothing replaces hard work, but working hard but dumb is worst than not working.

Logan—the journey of the gritty, somehow less mighty Wolverine in his "old age", actually speaks to me about the importance of having purpose in life
