Joel CY Chang is Group CEO at Charged Asia. They are an electric motorcycle manufacturer, distributor and exporter of sustainable and cloud connected fleets that are competitive, affordable, and practical compared to traditional combustion motorcycles.

Charged Asia was founded in 2022 in Greater Jakarta at a 16,000 sqm zero energy “Giga-Shed” powered entirely by solar and battery energy storage to house its experience center, research and development, as well as production teams.

Charged’s mission is to deploy 10M bikes in 10 years to lead the adoption of sustainable mobility enabling better health and livelihoods for everyone in Southeast Asia.

👋🏼  How would you explain your job to someone outside tech?

Chief of scaling our energy transition mission through affordable, practical and desirable electric motorcycles.

🧐  What's something about you or your job that would surprise us?

‍I am a climate change witness, having embarked on an expedition rappelling into ice caverns in Iceland to explore how our climate has drastically changed through human industrialization impact.

🏆  What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?

Mitigating thousands of tonnes of CO2 and harmful pollution,  and at the same time improving the earnings of our customers in Indonesia by scaling adoption of our electric motorcycles.

AI and its profound future impact on how we design better and safer mobility experiences.

💼  What advice would you give someone starting out in your industry?

Relentlessly search out the truth and double down your fundamentals based on it.
