Ice Breakers with Kimberly Yao

February 8, 2022

Kimberly is the Co-founder and CEO of CloudEats, a cloud kitchen startup active in the Philippines and Vietnam. Before CloudEats, she co-founded Boozy, the first online beverage and liquor retailer in the Philippines.

🎙  How would you explain your job to someone outside tech?

Building the restaurant of the future and harnessing the power of technology to change the food service industry.

🤨  What's something about you or your job that would surprise us?

We're building the largest food e-commerce company, and with that, we operate all of our cloud kitchen locations 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year. We are literally always open!

🏅 What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far, and why?

Raising our $5M Series A funding and expanding our business to Vietnam - I was told that it is the largest funding round secured by a Filipina founder.

I'm really proud to further the Philippine startup ecosystem and tell female Filipina founders that it's possible to bring your startup to an international level.

🤓  What's a startup trend or space you're watching this year?

I'm very keen to watch and support the rise of female founders. There are still too few of us, and the world is finally paying attention.

🎓  What advice would you give someone starting out in your industry?

Find a balance between speed and strategy. It's not enough to go fast. You also need a solid plan. Agility and resourcefulness should be key mentalities, especially in an ever-changing environment.

🗣  What's one thing you can keep talking about for hours? CloudEats

🎬  What's your favorite movie/TV show? Favorite movie of all time - Titanic | Current TV show guilty pleasure - The Crown

🍨  What's your go-to ice cream flavor? Straciatella or Ben and Jerry's Chocolate Fudge Brownie
