William Temple is the co-founder and CEO of Ampotech, an award-winning energy management company with operations in Singapore and Vietnam. Ampotech recently announced an investment from Clime Capital's Southeast Asia Clean Energy Fund II (SEACEF II) to expand to new markets in Southeast Asia.

👋🏼  How would you explain your job to someone outside tech?

We help companies operate their buildings and factories more efficiently, using the internet of things and AI.

🧐  What's something about you or your job that would surprise us?

I was an ice hockey player growing up, and I played through high school and college.‍

🏆  What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?

Ampotech winning an ASEAN Energy Award in 2022. Seeing something you have spent years building from the ground up get recognised in that way, at a regional level, is pretty special.

🔍  What's a startup trend or space you're watching this year?

The intersection of sustainability and finance. There is more capital available for energy and sustainability-focused projects now, compared to a few years ago, which will accelerate the adoption of renewable energy and energy efficiency technology.

💼  What advice would you give someone starting out in your industry?

Get exposure in different fields and roles early in your career. I’m a mechanical engineer who also studied electrical engineering.

In my 20s, I worked in the construction industry and in a research center that focused on sensor networks, cybersecurity, and AI. All of that experience came together with Ampotech.

🗣  What's one thing you can keep talking about for hours?

Travel. There are so many amazing places, cultures, and foods to experience around the world.

🎥  What's your favorite movie/TV show?

I don’t have a favourite, but recent shows I’ve enjoyed are Mythic Quest and Silo.
