New SEA player inDrive drives into the Philippines

December 13, 2023

More options for commuters. inDrive, the global ride-hailing company, is set to launch in the Philippines, challenging Grab’s dominance in the local market.

They were recognized by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board as a transport network company.

  • Founded in Russia, the firm is recruiting and onboarding drivers in cities outside of the Philippines’ capital until the end of the year.
  • They have not confirmed an exact date for the launch.

Presence. inDrive is active in over 700 cities and 45 countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.

🎄Christmas rush?

If you’ve ever been to Metro Manila, you know how crazy the traffic gets—especially during the holidays.

For the unlucky ones who have a long commute, they usually spend hours on the road before they get home.

  • Apart from taking the train, jeepney, or buses, using ride-hailing apps like Grab is common.
  • Local motorcycle ride-hailing apps like Angkas and JoyRide are also popular among commuters.

The catch. Taking these services every day to the office isn’t exactly cost-effective, especially with fare surges. Many commuters want better and more affordable alternatives.

🚗 About inDrive

inDrive has been keeping busy for the past months. Earlier this year, it launched in its first US market and also announced a new venture and M&A division called New Ventures.

New Ventures will invest $100M in startups across their active markets—Latin America, the Middle East and Africa, Southeast Asia, and Central Asia.

  • They’re going to invest vertically and horizontally in the ride-hailing industry to bring inDrive closer to profitability.
