Malaysian coffee startup ZUS Coffee raises $57.35M

How awake are you today? Maybe you need a cup of ZUS Coffee. This Malaysian coffee startup just raised $57.35M!

  • Founded in 2019, they have around 600 stores regionally.

Investor check. It’s an investor consortium with PE firm KV Asia Capital, pension fund KWAP (aka, Kumpulan Wang Persaraan Diperbadankan) and FMCG Player Kapal Api Group.

They’re a tech-enabled coffee chain that makes high-quality coffee accessible and affordable.

  • Growth in Malaysia. They only had 18 stores at the end of 2020 and grew 31x to 550 stores this year.

Philippine pride? Their second market is the Philippines, where they strategically partnered with local hospitality group Choi Garden Restaurant Company.

  • After launching last year, they now have 50 stores in the country.
  • The restaurant group acquired a 35% stake in ZUS Coffee.

☕️ What’s next?

They’re starting to add new offerings. One is their halal canned sparkling coffee called COFFIZZ. Oh, and they’re starting to offer pastries too!
