Philippine coffee startup Pick(s)up $40M in funding

April 18, 2023
PickUp Coffee

Need your morning pick-me-up? Get your coffee from Pickup Coffee! This Philippine coffee and drink startup has raised at least $40M in their Series A1 round.

  • Founded in early 2022, they already have 60 branches in the Philippines.
  • This takes their valuation to around $130M.

Investor check. We hear that Indonesia's Go Ventures led the round. DSG Consumer Partners, Gentree Fund, Ayala Group's Kickstart Ventures and Antler also joined in!

  • Singapore's Venturi Partners may also join the current round with a $6.5M investment.
  • They last raised a $1M seed from Tiger Global and Reshape Ventures in 2022.

💯 Is 100 the lucky number?

It's all about the money. Their drink prices start at PHP 50 (A little less than $0.89), with nothing going over PHP 100 ($1.79)!

  • 2x the price. Coffee prices at branded coffee shops like Tim Hortons and Starbucks typically cost PHP 100 to PHP 190.

You can order your classic coffee drinks like an Americano, Spanish Latte or White Mocha. If you need more of a kick, get one of their cold brews.

  • Want something special? Get one of their signature drinks like an Ube Latte, Nutellatte or the Milosaurus.
  • Like it a little milky? Or maybe you love tea! Don't worry, they've got milk-based drinks like Matcha Lattes and fruit teas too.

Hungry? Just like Starbucks, they also have cookies, sandwiches, breads and other small bites to pair with your drink— again, none of them cost over PHP 100 each ($1.79).

🚀 The strategy

They launched as a delivery-only brand serving Metro Manila, like your usual cloud kitchen.

  • You can now order on their Pickup Coffee app or on your favorite food delivery apps like Grab and foodpanda!

Later, they also launched small stalls, including indoor stalls and outdoor locations designed like small food trucks.

  • Order and go, or enjoy your drink there since they've got tables and chairs around too!
