Egg-cellent idea? A new social app for the young (and young at heart) is here! It’s Singapore’s Yolk.fm. Now, they’ve just raised a $1.25M pre-seed!
Yolk’s founders are also the founders of Drigmo, a social app that lets foodies review and list their favorite restaurants.
Investor check. Forge Ventures led the round. Sequoia’s Scout fund and several angels joined in!
📲 Here’s how it works
The app doesn’t allow any text or texting. Instead, users have to take photos to create AI-generated custom live stickers to send to friends. This is taking the saying “a picture is worth a thousand words” to the next level.
In action. If you’re feeling annoyed, you can use the app to make a sticker out of your expression right now to share with a friend. The sticker is a “live sticker” so you can move and capture your expression turning into a frown for around a second.
As a response, your friend can create a sticker of themselves making a funny face and moving their head back-and-forth to make you laugh.
More than one sticker at a time. Yolk allows you to edit and combine stickers too.
Apart from sending and reacting to stickers, you can also add all the stickers you receive into a roulette of your selected animated stickers (called a “profile fidget spinner”).
🍳 What’s next?
They’ll be testing different marketing channels like TikTok and chat groups, boosting R&D efforts, and occasionally working with part-time remote talent.
The newsletter that keeps you up-to-date on the top stories on tech and business in Southeast Asia. It's fun, quick and free.
